First and foremost WASH YOUR HANDS before ever touching your tattoo! This is crucial for the healing process so no bacteria may enter the skin. This will greatly reduce the risk of infection.
If you are wearing the Saniderm wrap, this bandage is good for continuous wear for 3-5 days. The bandage forms what we call the “ink sack.” This is a collection of blood, plasma, and tattoo ink that forms inside the bandage. It is completely normal and will not harm the tattoo. If you are allergic to bandage adhesives or have very sensitive skin this bandage is not for you! If you develop redness or itchiness with the bandage take it off immediately. When you are ready to take off the bandage, do so SLOWLY in the shower to help loosen the adhesive.
After your bandage has been removed, wash your tattoo with Dial Antibacterial Gold Soap. Once the tattoo is dry you may apply a very thin amount of aquaphor or A&D. You will apply the healing ointment 2-3 times a day for two weeks. Please use a very thin amount of the healing ointment so the tattoo is still able to breathe. This is crucial to the after care!
Your tattoo should be mostly if not fully healed by two weeks. Peeling and itching will occur at the one week mark. A healing tattoo behaves a lot like a sun burn. Do not forcibly peel the skin or scratch at the area. If you happen to take peeling skin off while applying your healing ointment no worries! Just be sure not to forcibly pick at the area.
Extra precautions may include watching out for pet dander, chemicals, scented or dyed products, and making sure to wear clean clothes.
Summary: wash your hands, use dial
antibacterial soap to wash your tattoo, aquaphor 2-3 times a day for two weeks, and be cautious of things that might touch the tattoo itself.
